Fantasy Matchmaking

Welcome to one of my favorite parts of the fight game; the "who should fight who next" game. I do these after EVERY UFC card for EVERY fighter that competed.

NOTE: Please notice that the numbers next to their names are MY rankings and NOT the UFC official rankings.

  Here's the latest:

UFC 265: #2 Lewis vs #3 Gane

      MAIN CARD:

- (IC) Ciryl Gane vs (C) Francis Ngannou. They did it. UFC brass managed to set up a legitimate title fight now with this unification. I'm of the opinion that this wasn't the way to get it done, but it's done now. Imagine if they can pull it off in France. That'd be insane. I'm just hoping that doesn't mean we'll have to wait a year or more for it.

- #3 Derrick Lewis vs winner of #10 Walt Harris/#14 Tai Tuivasa. Why reward Lewis with the winner of this fight? Well, I'm not really sure where he goes from here and outclassed badly in this fight. Well, the thing is that he's fought many of the names in the top 10 already and I think that to get the best from him it'd be ideal to match him up next with another brawler type fighter. Lewis against Harris/Tuivasa sounds pretty fun to me.

- #5 José Aldo vs #4 Rob Font. I'd love nothing more than an Aldo/TJ match up, but I'm pretty sure TJ will fight the winner of Aljo/Yan. Aldo/Font feels like a perfect fight night card main event to determine the next challenger after Aljo/Yan vs TJ takes place.

- #12 Pedro Munhoz vs loser of #7 Marlon Moraes/#9 Merab Dvalishvili.

- #5 Vicente Luque vs winner of (C) Kamaru Usman/#1 Colby Covington. You know what? F*ck it, let's do it! Luque is deserving of the shot. Only top 5er Usman hasn't fought, in the record books for finishes at 170, always delivers AND I'm pretty sure Leon will have to take another fight. If they go with Usman/Leon (I know I'm looking past Colby, but I don't think Usman is losing against him) I'd have no problem whatsoever, but I'd rather see Usman/Luque.

- #7 Michael Chiesa vs #13 Santiago Ponzinibbio.

- #5 Tecia Torres vs winner of #11 Amanda Ribas/#12 Virna Jandiroba. Tecia asked for someone in the top 5 but the problem is that she already has losses to Zhang, JJ & Rodriguez and not of them were particularly close. *Maybe* a rematch against Zhang, but I don't see it happening. She is now in that position where she'll have to keep taking out these surging contenders.

- #15 Angela Hill vs loser of #11 Amanda Ribas/#12 Virna Jandiroba.

- #16 Song Yadong vs winner of #14 Ricky Simón/#20 Timur Valiev.

- #22 Casey Kenney vs #26 Davey Grant.

           PRELIMS:

- #17 Rafael Fiziev vs #9 Dan Hooker. It's time for a reformation in the 155 top 15. With names like Fiziev, Tsarukyan, Gamrot & Dawson it's almost a new era for 155 and I'm really hoping the guys with a number next to their names who've been there for a while like Lee, Hooker, RDA don't just hold on to them and make way for the newer names. Fiziev certainly needs to work on his cardio and Hooker would push forward and test that for sure.

- #27 Bobby Green vs #23 Alexander Hernandez.

- #51 Vince Morales vs #54 Sergey Morozov.

- #68 Drako Rodriguez vs #63 Journey Newson.

- #19 Alonzo Menifield vs #22 Da Un Jung.

- #21 Ed Herman vs #17 Maurício Rua. Let's just please have old men fighting each other and not up and comers, especially in this weight class. Why not having a retirement fight for both given they're such veterans?

- #13 Jessica Penne vs #8 Yan Xiaonan.

- #18 Karolina Kowalkiewicz vs #27 Mallory Martin. With 5 straight losses, though... Either retirement or getting released is okay with me. I just can't take it any longer.

- #20 Manel Kape vs #19 Zarrukh Adashev. For as good as he/everyone think he is, he's only 1-2 in the UFC so far and missed weight badly. I'd caution against throwing him in there against a top 10-15.

- #25 Ode' Osbourne vs #23 Ryan Benoit.

- #39 Miles Johns vs #37 John Castañeda.

- #58 Anderson dos Santos vs #56 Khalid Taha.

- #33 Melissa Gatto vs winner of Sarah Alpar/Erin Blanchfield.

- #38 Victoria Leonardo vs #37 Liliya Shakirova.

- #61 Johnny Muñoz vs #62 Tony Kelley.

- #72 Jamey Simmons vs #73 Aaron Phillips.
